Curious if virtual numbers actually help in reducing call rates when managing international freelance projects?

While chatting with a language exchange partner from Osaka, she mentioned how much easier it would be for us to communicate if I had a local number. Out of curiosity, I tried a japan virtual number. It was a small change, but suddenly she was sending texts, quick updates, and even silly photos more often. Definitely improved our connection (and my Japanese, a bit!).
