Cleanliness standards feel stricter than I expected

I started working part time in a small food place recently and one thing that surprised me was how serious they are about cleanliness, like even small things are checked constantly. At first I thought it was a bit too much, but now I'm starting to understand why it matters so much, especially with inspections and all. I've been trying to find out how to maintain cleanliness in food-related work on my own time just so I don't mess anything up during shifts, and I came across a detailed guide online that explained things in a simple way. Still, some routines feel hard to keep up with when it gets busy, and I worry about slipping up without realizing. For those who've been doing this longer, does it eventually become second nature or do you always have to stay super conscious about every step?
