What is the size of your air conditioner? I recommend you use Harbor Freight in tool predator 3500 W inverter generator.
Actually all depends on the size of your air conditioner and how often you plan to use the generator to run it. If it's a small 8000 BTU you might get away with a single 2000 watt generator but you will be taxing it.. For example the Honda EU 2200 has a maximum momentary starting capacity of 2200 W but only 1800 watts running. In other words it can withstand 2200 Watts for a few seconds without blowing up, They claim it will provide 1800 watts continuous at sea level but that somewhat misleading pizza tower It won't last long at 1800 on a continual basis. Keep in mind that unlike a commercial Duty Onan generator you never want to run an inverter type generator at full load for any length of time as you'll destroy them relatively quickly. At best you want to run them at about 50% of their rated output.
Keep in mind these small inverter generators don't have oil filters so you really want to change the oil about 3 times as often as they recommend depending on how dusty of an environment you're running them in.
