We did an informal benchmarking exercise last month where I looked at publicly available performance data from distribution operations similar to ours in the region and the results were uncomfortable enough that I've been sitting with them for a few weeks before deciding what to do with the information. Our order accuracy rate and our average processing time per order both came in noticeably below what seemed to be the middle of the range for comparable operations and while I can come up with reasons for that gap I'm not sure any of them are actually good excuses rather than just explanations for a problem we should have addressed earlier. I've been looking into Discover smarter ways to handle customer orders (https://uaestories.com/uae-distribution-centers-order-accuracy/) specifically in distribution environments because I want to understand what the better-performing operations are actually doing differently rather than just knowing that a gap exists without any sense of how to close it. An article I found on uaestories.com focused on order accuracy in UAE distribution centers gave me some concrete reference points and what struck me was that most of the improvements described didn't come from major capital investment but from fairly deliberate changes to workflow design, staff communication structures and how errors get tracked and fed back into the process. That last point about error feedback loops is something we're genuinely weak on because right now mistakes get corrected but rarely analyzed in any systematic way which means we keep fixing the same types of errors without ever addressing the conditions that produce them in the first place.
