Glen Schofield's most famous work today is the original Dead Space. But he spent many years at Activision working as a producer and co-director on Call of Duty titles such as the original Modern Warfare 3 Advanced Warfare and WW2. Although he has long since left the series, Schofield says that he is still concerned about what it will look like under Microsoft's ownership.
Schofield told VGC that he was not worried about the future of COD on Xbox.
"I'm worried, I am," he says. "Because of Gears of War... where is Halo... do you understand? When you look at EA or these other big companies, I wonder where the Strike games are. Where's the game? There are so many other games that have fallen by the wayside."
Strike, a series of overhead shooters in which you controlled a military helicopter on consoles from Genesis to PS1, isn't a popular one these days. But it's one of the many IPs that are now dust in EA's vaults. Call of Duty may be too prestigious to ever fall under the Xbox banner, but Schofield points out that other series, such as Halo, Gears of War, and others have.
Schofield: "Unfortunately I think once you become a part of one of these corporations, you start to take on their characteristics." Schofield argues that Call of Duty's quality is already declining, saying, "since leaving Sledgehammer... none of the new games have been good."
