Title: Digital nomads: how do you stay connected safely when abroad?
Post by: Rammir on November 02, 2025, 01:15:35 PM
I've been traveling for the past six months — Thailand, Vietnam, and now Portugal — and I keep running into the same problem: staying online safely. Public Wi-Fi is everywhere, but I always worry about my info being exposed, especially when I log in to my bank or client accounts. I tried a few VPNs, but some slow my connection so badly that it's unusable for video calls. How do you guys stay connected securely without killing your speed?

I've noticed that the quality of connections varies a lot depending on the country and even the city. In some places, mobile data works better than Wi-Fi, while in others, it's the opposite. It really helps to test both and have a local SIM as a backup, especially if you're constantly moving around or working from random spots like hostels or coworking cafés.

Yeah, I totally get that. I had the same issue when I was working from Bali last year. The Wi-Fi in cafés there was decent, but I didn't trust it. I ended up using a few options I found on this vpn portal this vpn review site (https://topchinavpns.com/) which helped me compare reliable VPNs that actually work well for digital nomads. I've been using one of their top picks since then — solid speed, even with streaming and work calls.
