Title: Do knives have gameplay differences in CS2 or is it just cosmetic?
Post by: Jomix on June 30, 2025, 06:06:04 PM
I've seen mixed opinions about whether knife types have any effect on gameplay in CS2. Some say it's purely cosmetic, others say animations affect timing or hitboxes. Is there any place that actually explains it in detail?

I always wondered if the animation timing made a difference when switching to knife and back.

While knives don't offer raw combat advantages, their animation speeds can slightly affect how fast you switch weapons or bait noise. The here (https://dmarket.com/cs2-wiki/) explores this in more detail than any Reddit post I've seen. It categorizes each knife type, shows animation durations, and even explains how that plays into baiting sound queues during clutches. The wiki also talks about cosmetic appeal and historical pricing, but the mechanical side was what I found most useful. I switched from Karambit to Skeleton Knife based on what I read there, and I noticed smoother transitions when juggling weapons. If you're looking for the edge in knife usage beyond looks, this guide really helps put the facts on the table.
