Listen, what if there were some upgrades done to the car, would that be shown somewhere? Or replacement of certain parts. Like if I decide to switch to a newer car and it had some upgrades, how would I even find that out?

Sometimes this can show up in a VIN report when certain upgrades were done officially and recorded, like an engine or transmission replacement, if it was handled through a dealer or insurance. But most of the time, no. In general, the order of checking a car before buying looks like this: you start with a VIN report, I recommend FAXVIN (https://www.faxvin.com/license-plate-lookup/california). It's important to talk to the owner, but of course not trust them 100%. All upgrades and the overall condition of the car should be checked by an independent mechanic. A good specialist will spot non stock parts right away. Something like that.
