Title: Livin Lite fifth wheels
Post by: dj1100rt on June 27, 2019, 12:38:29 PM
I know that their pretty rare, but does anyone remember if they had aluminum roofs.

We loved our 2013 QBB13, but sold it to move up in size.  I know that the 5th wheels were only built in 2015.

I am pretty sure that the LL fifth wheel campers had aluminum roofs, but they did have steel frames at least for the base perimeter. Steel is easier to fabricate and is stronger than aluminum, but a bit heavier than aluminum for equivalent strength. But it does require good welding and given the rash of aluminum frame weld cracks, maybe steel really is better for camper frames.

The 5th wheels did not have aluminum roofs because of they could not bend them around the roof line.  They also have steel frames because of the increased stress on a fifth wheel.  They were two points of contention among some when they first came out.  I still find them really fascinating and tempting.
