General Q & A / Re: Tire Pressure
May 03, 2018, 09:39:11 PM
Just a note on tire pressure; The load rating is based on Max pressure. Most RV manufactures use tires that just meet the requirements for max load if inflated to max pressure. I have seen some cases where the valve stems used are not rated for the max pressure of the tire. Many of the tires have a speed rating that is less than the speed limit on most Highways. Heat is an issue in many of the southern states, and a tire that is out of balance will generate more heat than a balanced tire. A tire can be perfectly balanced and if it is out of round, it will react much the same as a tire that is out of balance.

Open Discussion Area / RV tire repairs
May 02, 2018, 08:05:15 PM
After dismounting and inspecting several new RV tires, I have discovered that many have had punctures repaired. The latest was a model by Sunset Park RV.  Three of the tires had been repaired. None of the repairs met the TIA recommendations. One repair was in an area where repair is not allowed. This may be one reason so many New RV tires fail. Most of the tires are not properly balanced. Some were out of balance by over 4 ounces. We make it a practice to balance all the tires we mount. We also throw away the cheap valve stems and replace then with Quality stems that are rated for the Tire pressure. It could be that the issue with RV tires is more than just the tires.
