Messages - Biewers on the go

Hi all,  I have a CampLite 8.4s 2017 that has all of the drains inside a compartment underneath the rear camper extension that goes beyond my truck bumper.  INSIDE mind you.  So, even though I have now added drain shut off ball valves to each of the water drains, it is still possible for me to end up with water in this enclosed space that has NO drain plug to release the water with.  Before I got my ball valves all set up tightly with thread tape I kept having leaks that led to my compartment getting about 1/2" of water.
This compartment runs the FULL width of the camper too.  Or water would spray all over in there and the lighting wires and all kinds of other wiring goes through there too!

Anyhow, I wondered what you thought of my creating external drains from these internal connections, maybe even the grey and black water drains too.  Our old truck campers always had all of them below the lowest point of the camper on the outside and it worked perfectly.  My camper cannot be lowered enough to have any ground interference issues either.

Thanks,
Rayne

I have a 2017 Camplite TC 8.4s and recently realized that the so-called exterior diamond plate on my rig is actually only plastic!  I was looking into attaching batteries for my solar system to the outside walls under the camper and in front of my wheel wells on my truck bed.  Boy did I feel stupid.  So I just went back to Livin Lite's site and they only list the diamond plate now on their toy haulers, and I can't get the specs on the TC's anymore that say it is Diamond Plate.

Wish they hadn't sold out that division or I would really want to go after them for misleading and false product information and specs too.

Anyone else want to weigh in on this issue?

What an awesome idea!  I'll be doing the same to mine asap!  This is an especially good idea in case it rains while you are not at the camper and the windows are open too.  Not a good idea to have happen, but it does as  we all know.

Thanks!

CampLite Truck Campers / Re: wire problems
May 12, 2018, 01:20:35 PM
I would try calling Livin Lite because unfortunately the guy that used to work for them and moderated this forum and helped us all apparently left over the winter or last fall.  The company has changed hands and others issues in the past year or so since I bought my 2017 TC8.4S so I am aware of this.

Try 1-866-472-5460 and see if Taylor is still there.  Maybe she can help you.  Good luck, id be pretty annoyed wit my dealership if i were you.

Now, may I ask what truck you are loading your camper onto?  Mine is an F-250 3/4 ton diesel and I am having all kinds of problems since I put my gear into my rig.   Empty of everything except propane, I have no problem.  Not really useful to me that way though.

Thanks,

For most boondock campers solar is overkill. Two golf cart batteries wired in series will cover your electrical needs for about a week as long as you don't need A/C (which you can't practically do anyway with batteries).

David

DavidM, Seriously, why on earth would you say it was overkill if I would have to use a generator if I did not have the equivalent in Solar?  I'm confused?  I want to be able to run at minimum my roof vent van in hot weather, my furnace when it is chilly out, and my refrigerator is an electric start.  I also only have a Micro/convection oven combo now as this is what is being installed in all the newer TC's too.  Those will use up a lot of battery if they even run off the battery which I do not happen to think they do.

Also, We never heard back on what brand of panels he used and if they were the flexible ones or not too.  Why wasn't that system overkill for him DavidM?  I  curious.  Thanks,

I stumbled upon a YouTube video yesterday of the 2015 Camp Lite 8.4S TC, and it did not even have the assist handle, it only had the old kind of handle that was about 8-10" long and only stuck out about an inch or two at most.  Looked to be exactly what I want installed on my camper along with the Assist Handle since that one already has holes from mounting it.

Anyone?  Dan Miller?

I use a three drawer unit made of plastic.  I might have bought it at Big Lots but you can get it anywhere.  It fits perfectly in my cabinet and holds everything I need and then some.

Pictures pretty please?

CampLite Truck Campers / Re: Ridgeline truck camper?

Hi,

According to my Heavy Duty Truck mechanic, none of the Honda or Toyota Trucks are designed to carry a load like a truck camper at all.

However, that being said, have you checked out the little tiny ones that don't have a cabover, nor anything beyond the tailgate?  Maybe they would work for you.  They aren't by Livin Lite though.

Good luck,

Well I got 4 panels glued to the roof. I ended up drilling through the roof in the space between the cabinet and where the tv is mounted. The 4 panels had the 4 deep cycle AGM batteries charged by 1pm each day while in Utah. I was able to fit the 4 batteries in the battery compartment.

What brand of panels did you use, where did you get them, and about how much were they if you don't mind telling us? Another thing, I just saw something on You tube today that I didn't get a chance to check out, and it was about gluing on flexible solar panels to the top of the RV, are yours the flexible ones too?

I am looking to run my A/C unit, and other things too, or at least my Super Fan and maybe my laptop or the TV if possible and I will be boon docking it.  I have the A/C unit that can be run by a 2000 Generator, I can't think of the other terminology regarding the generator, but I don't want the weight and noise that go with a generator when I am camping.

Thanks,

I found plastic drawers that can be put under a cabinet.  it saves weight and holds plenty.  I did have to Velcro the drawer to keep it from opening during travel.

Can you send pictures of the set up you did, and where did you get the plastic drawers you used?
Thanks,

Thanks for the tension rod up in the valance suggestion. I will check that out.

However, I would have preferred a breathable shade instead again, this mod will add another tiny bit of weight to my rig.

CampLite Truck Campers / Windows and privacy shades
June 21, 2017, 12:01:34 PM
Okay, I sure wish somewhere information and instructions on our new 2017 model window screens and shades existed.  I had NO idea that it seems that the only way we can have privacy in our camper is to close the shades, and yet these do not allow the air to pass through at all!  Granted, we can partially close them as they come up from the bottom which is helpful.  However, when sleeping when dry camping and no A/C, if we want to keep the sun out of our eyes at 5:30 a.m. this means we have to close them all the way to the top which is essentially the same as closing the window!  Seriously?  Who's idea was this one?

Also, I thought our TC windows were supposed to be able to open outwards to varying degrees, well, the ones in the bunk cab- ???over won't do anything but all the way out, nor the dinette one.  The one above the sink will only open out 1/2 of what the others do or it comes out of the bracket.  Maybe mine are defective?  Can anyone point me to the instructions on these?  My dealership is useless on this since all makes and models are different.

Thanks,
Rayne

I purchased it through the Camp Lite Dealer in Central NY.  Why?

General Q & A / Re: tow rating links?
June 11, 2017, 11:07:03 AM
Just remember that whatever the payload says on the sticker, it is not reflective of that actual truck having had any options added to it, like running boards, or extended running boards, the towing package is even extra weight that has to be subtracted from your payload number to get actual weight of the vehicle too!  It is enough to make you batty, I agree.

It's really annoying when the sales people haven't got a clue either.  When they hear truck camper the majority of them think towing and not payload.  I keep having to show them a picture of my camper on my truck.  Then they have various reactions from intrigued about all the numbers to down right don't really care, they just want to get rid of a truck.  Arghhh.

Hello, I have a CL TC 8.4S, and I am new at being the one that does everything on the campers.  So, I now know where my hot water and cold water tank drains to empty them are.  They are in the outside compartment towards the rear and lowest points of my camper.  BUT, they are on the inside and do not extend to the outside to be drained.  Therefore, once I figure out how to open the end valves (afraid of breaking them since the pipes are all plastic) I need to be able to attach something to them quickly so that I can extend them out onto the ground or into a bucket or whatever depending upon the circumstances.

Does anyone else have a solution or trick they use to do this with a truck camper?  It is easier by far on the travel trailers or motorhomes for sure.  Thanks,
Rayne
