General Q & A / Re: Vail Sport Tires

I have switched to good year marathons. Maybe not the best, still made overseas, but they have been very dependable. Never another Carlisle tire on anything. Absolutely horrible.

General Q & A / Re: Aluminum?

In the world of campers there is no solution. Camplite made a great attempt to resolve most of the nightmares of a camper. As stated, the aluminum roof where it meets the rounded front is not pretty. the metal is arched with the curvature of the roof from side to side and can't make the smooth transition to the curved nose without some wrinkles. I have always wondered why the commercial grade white roofing that is used on buildings is not used on campers. I used it on my old jayco and it was bomb proof. I know it is heavier blah blah, but it was literally 4x thicker than the camper roofing. I am starting to understand why people are buying all aluminum inclosed trailers and building their own camper. Sadly this is another example of how low bid dominates every industry and the mega mergers are not to make a company stronger but to control the competition's offerings. If you can't beat them buy them out.

Mine has an aluminum tube frame and azdel wood grain panels. They look nice but have a plastic feel to the touch. Considering all other cabinets are wood press board with wood grain stickers, I'm not concerned. The doors all have aluminum frames, and continuous piano style hinges. The latches are sweet to and never open when rolling down the road. I love them but they are a more industrial feel. If they ever got wet it would be no big deal.

CampLite Travel Trailers / Re: Window Help?

I have an update on my window. Camp lite is no longer using our European Dometic tip out windows. Parts are proving to be very difficult. I have the Dometic parts breakdown and parts number list. I called a dealer, then living lite, then dometic (twice) and after a 45 minute conversation I finally got the numbers. I was unable to buy the window direct, so now I had to get a local dometic dealer involved. He is less than excited about the process and I am waiting for him to reach dometic with the part number to get a quote to order the replacement. Short story long.... Be very careful with your windows and take great care to make sure the wind doesn't catch them. The actuators do not stop the wind from grabbing them and swinging them wide open.

Duncan Glass is now the USA importer for Seitz windows. Once this connection was made it was smooth sailing. Dometic sold their line to Duncan. Living Lite customer service was awesome and Taylor is a parts ninja. I'll attach the link to the new supplier. These little plastic cookie sheet windows are VERY expensive. I cracked the smallest one above the sink... $250 for the part to repair it. Hopefully I can save someone a lot of headaches. Also make sure to write down or take a picture for your records of the AGM number in the corner of your windows. This is the only hope you have for replacing them. They are metric and measured by millimeters not inches. I hope to get the new one in two weeks and I will give the final update. Dan Miller was also awesome with the support on this one.

This is a heated topic from what I gather. I prefer the aluminum roof and floors. They have their pros and cons to each. The rubber fabric roofs are pretty much industry standard. Like anything if properly maintained they last. I scoured the earth to find my 2015 to keep the original design. If the original guys wanted fabric them it would have been there. I guess the consolation prize is that they used adzel under the roof, so it won't "rot". will it mold? We don't know. If aluminum is what you want then start your search for a 2015 or older unit. Thor purchased living lite. I'm sure this was done to keep the line alive and keep the product feasible. The floors are also not "wood" but they aren't tongued and grooved aluminum. Anyway you look, the product is still way better than any of the competition. I was very fortunate to grab mine. The previous owner stayed in the camp lite line up but went to a toy hauler. He was very hesitant to switch due to the changes. Either way I think the design will provide you with a much better product than the competition. I would recommend staying with the aluminum cabinetry. Spend some time looking at them and make your own decision.

General Q & A / Re: Towing a 10.0 w/ a Subaru Outback

I would favor the older Subaru for towing. I think your 2016 has a CVT transmission where the older one will still have a 5 speed auto. Even with the older one don't tow in overdrive, it is not a good plan.

CampLite Travel Trailers / Window Help?
August 04, 2017, 09:03:24 PM
Hi guys this is my first post to the forum. I just pulled the camper out today and my kitchen window is cracked up by the hinge. Apparently dometic windows are Seitz windows? I need to replace the glass/acrylic. The trailer is a 2015, but I don't see any info in the literature for the windows. I was pretty surprised to see this issue as these windows are very highly rated. Luckily it was the smallest window on the trailer, had it been the one in the slide I would have been very ill. Is this common for these to crack? The trailer is inside stored unless it is out on the road. I use Plexus acrylic polish to clean them. We use it on airplane windshields all the time and it is designed for acrylic and polycarbonate. I guess Monday will be the judgement day. Have a great weekend to all.
