CampLite Travel Trailers / Re: BATTERY draining ??

Thanks! That makes sense and, yup! The pin was pulled. I also found a button on my King Jack that was sucking a little juice.

Those trailer brakes are one of those mysteries that I hadn't considered. I was thinking they were mechanical and not electrical. Still living in the horse and buggy days, I guess.

Soffit vents are to let air in, ridge vents let it out. If the roof vents let the soffit air out, then all the air from the roof vents to the ridge could stagnate, heat up, and cause the shingles to fail. The ridge vent will only work if there is some other air to replace what is leaving. I'm not saying this is happening, only that it's a possibility. If there are gable vents too, then the fresh air could come from them for the peak.

It's all about the "design" and the building science behind it. If you install two things that are supposed to work together, and then add a third that isn't. That third is just going to get in the way...

Gables? Shingles?  Never seen any of those on travel trailers. Must be a fancy-schmancy one!

Mineral spirits should do the trick (be careful testing the finishes, though). If not silicone in a wet area, what do you suggest?

We went camping last week and it snowed the day before we left, so the antifreeze was out of the system.

We have the enclosed underbelly. Nothing froze (lows in the 20's) and we don't heat it above 65*. As long as the heat is on, your tanks should be OK. As for dump lines, those aren't usually connected in freezing weather. We have also observed that the furnace barely sips propane if you keep the temperature lower.

I would NOT DISCONNECT the hose to the underbelly.

CampLite Travel Trailers / BATTERY draining ??

Our 2018 has a built in battery disconnect, but still seems to have a draw.

I found some vampire appliances, but unplugged them or turned them off (not on standby) altogether. No lights are on. Trickle charged (solar suitcase) all day and battery read FULL at sundown. Unplugged solar panel and this morning the battery was reading EMPTY. The battery is a new AGM 100 amp hour monster. We killed the first cheap-o battery by not taking cold weather precautions. We have had shore power plugged in, battery connected to trickle charge, but are going on a camping trip with no hookups.

Now, here's the weird thing...if lights are on and we disconnect the battery with the switch, the lights go off. However, when we installed the new battery, there was a current still flowing, even with the battery disconnect switch disconnected, and no shore power.

Help us understand.....we're newbs.

Upgrades and Modifications / Just Add Caulk...

??? We are getting ready for the shake down cruise on our new 14DBS. We have had it in our driveway for a few months waiting for the weather to improve. We've also been afforded the luxury of getting some fine tuning addressed, such as flipping the window shades, changing the fabric on the valances, adding strategic storage, etc...

Earlier this week I was finally able to de-winterize the coach. When I flushed the shower lines, some water splashed onto the floor, as it does. BUT, it was surprising to see that there wasn't a bead of caulk at the base of the shower pan, where water could run under the stall. There were also some other seams where the water could easily infiltrate and cause "stank."

Everything else appears to be functioning well, but the lack of a simple bead of necessary caulk made me tilt my head.

PRO TIP: grab a little tube of silicone caulk to stash in your tool box or junk drawer!

I also have a 14 DBS, but 2018. There is only one light over my bed, and it's a blinding LED! Spouse would love a mini ceiling fan. Me, I love a breeze from the windows, but would make a concession. Pictures are always appreciated! Please share any upgrades featuring this great idea.

My 2018 16TBS came with a battery disconnect switch inside the front compartment.   Don't know if that is standard or optional.

I believe it was added to later models.

Dearth! Now there's a word that is needed in a plethora of descriptions. :D

Firstly, thank you for taking us with you (vicariously) and sharing the good, bad and "stumpy"of it all.

So, it lacks a little in the suave department. Our 14 foot one has a similar look. I was all rrrrev'd-up to get a teardrop, but all of the ones out there kept missing the mark on the list of wishes my spouse and I compiled. We found Doris by cosmic intervention, as the planets just seemed to align. But, I digress....

The lack of horizontal planes was a concern for us, too. Our solution by the bed was one of those fabric pocket things that wedges partially under the mattress, with spaces hanging on the side for a water bottle, cell phone, book, lip balm, Kleenex, etc... I had considered adding a folding shelf bracket, but hated the idea of drilling holes in Doris.

HERE'S A SPACE SAVING SUGGESTION, or 2
1. Need Kleenex? Poke a hole in the bottom of the box toward the center of one end (about the size of a pencil point). Use a Command Hook and mount it on any wall space ...VOILA! No counter space needed for that.

2. Hanging shoe pockets fit the width of the bathroom door (if so equipped) almost to a tee. I opted for the canvas type as plastic won't hold up as well. Shoes in the bottom rows are out of the way and top pockets can hold a variety of shhhtuff.

It's ok. Just the power station beefing up for the added load. I noticed it while on shore power. It sounds like the hamster runs faster as you turn on more lights, etc.

YAY! Sounds like even I can do it. Thanks for the inspiration and great info!

We just bought a used 16 DB  that has a regular mattress. It is very comfy,  but extremely difficult to put on bedding. Any ideas as to make putting on the fitted sheet any easier?  With chronic fatigue syndrome,  it wears me out, and can't do much of anything else for the rest of the day.

Also very difficult to raise bed for storage access.  I wish there were two exterior access doors, one on either side. We only have one on one side of the trailer.

There is a product called Beddy's. Think of them as an investment in your well being.

Weight is a consideration. A nice fiber/featherbed topper would be good. Foam mattresses can be hot, and heavy. If a memory foam pad is under a fiber bed topper, OMG! So comfy!....and yet, it breathes.

Great! Can't wait to hear how it goes. It looks like the shade/screen system is in a frame. My concern is taking off the valance without seriously damaging it.....and getting it back on, of course.

Upgrades and Modifications / FLIPPING Window Shade/screen
February 19, 2018, 08:53:08 AM
This topic has been mentioned before, but I've lost the thread.

Has anyone else tried to remove the valances and turn the screen/shade units around?? I would like to have the shade pull up instead of down, for added privacy while still ventilating.

I'm worried I will screw up the fabric. ADVICE??
