Shower drains into black tank
« on: June 01, 2018, 12:49:02 AM »
2018 21BHS, and I just verified that my shower is draining into the black tank. And no it's not leaking through the gate valves. It's definitely draining straight into the black tank. I checked it after noticing my black tank filled extremely fast on our last trip.

Has anyone else had this issue before? I'm going to remove the underbelly tomorrow to see how hard it will be to fix myself due to my dealer being 12 hours away. Does anyone without an underbelly have any pictures of how the drain is suppose to be routed to the grey tank on a 21BHS?

Should definitely be going to the grey tank.  As was mentioned on Aluminumcamperforum.com, the shower is supposed to tee into the gray tank vent pipe.  The black tank vent is towards the back of the camper, at least it is on my 2013 21BHS.  There is nothing that would be visible from below, otherwise I would be glad to take a picture.  I'd get that back to the dealer and have them worry about it.  May not be a simple fix.

If you contact your dealer or living Lite, they may authorize a repair at a shop near you -worth a try

Spoke with KZ/Livin Lite customer support today, and they said it's a design change on all 21BHS with the bigger black tanks installed. They also sent me the drawings that show the shower drain going into the black tank with a check valve. My trailer was completed in December 2017, so any made after that will have the shower draining into the black tank instead of the gray.

I should not let my husband know this. It would give him more reason to insist on peeing in the shower. (I told him that's what the woods are for.)

Your camper might not have separate tanks for black and gray water, this is a new change started on some 2018 models where the shower drains into the black tank.

We have a 2019 21BHS (1 of 6 made in for 2019).  Ours drains into the black tank through the vent pipe.  The problem is that it really does not drain.  We have it at the local Livin Lite warranty RV dealer and they said it actually is plumbed to drain uphill (or not drain at all).  They are in contact with Livin Lite to find a remedy.  We wish it went into the grey tank but for now we just want it to work without issue.  They are going to have to pull the entire shower to fix it.

Come to find out it was plumbed "uphill" and the drain baffle was installed backwards.  The remedy was to raise the shower pan 1" and install a new drain baffle in the correct orientation.  It does drain into the black tank and there is not a fix as each tank is separated by support beams.  So unfortunately we will have a lot of water for a our black tank.  I will post an update after we get it home and get to use it on a camping trip.

My dealer said that this is a common problem. Therefore, when we came to him, he without too much talk repaired everything as we needed.
